In its four years of existence, TikTok has grown from an app filled with dance challenges into a community-building powerhouse, driving trends in music, food, fashion and politics. In the process, it’s also become something else: the go-to platform for shopping inspiration.
Viral TikTok videos have already led to worldwide shortages of feta cheese, workout leggings and roller skates. Selling products on the platform happens so organically that Amazon added a page to its website filled with of products called #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt.
To make it even easier for content creators and companies to sell their products on the app, TikTok is rolling out its new ‘suite of commerce solutions’ that will bring in-app shopping and product discovery to the platform.
With TikTok Shopping, creators will be able to add a shopping tab to their TikTok profiles. The tab will pull products from their Shopify product catalogs, allowing other TikTok users to browse products without leaving the app.
The new feature is being rolled out in the US, UK and Canada and is currently only available to Shopify merchants with a TikTok for Business account.
